Track-a-trash

Waste trackability throughout its lifecycle and incentivisation of separate waste collection

Waste trackability throughout its lifecycle and incentivisation of separate waste collection. This is achieved by implementing a transparent way to track waste along its path to oblivion, ensuring proper handling and by adding extra incentives for both those who already collect waste separately and those who are willing to start.

Our user study showed that many people are concerned with how their waste is handled after it leaves their hands and that this is also one of the reasons for refusal of separate waste collection. We prepared a prototype of a service to amend that. It is accessible through the web and key data can be also reported back to the user on their monthly communal service bills. The prototype is also accessible by bags tagged with bar or QR codes can be seen here:

It also includes a bit of gamification and competition, plus presenting some environmental impacts of the user's waste handling habits.
